The landing pad helps with precision landing. The drone takes a picture of where it took off and then compares that picture to what it sees when it returns to find the landing spot. So it's best to have a high contrast landing pad for the drone to see and recognize.

Thank you but I can buy them brand new from DJI for $349.....and as a refurb from DJI for $275 that comes with a full warranty. My target price for a used pair is $200....possibly $225. I might have to wait a bit but I always find deals.
