I recommmend two things : First always get the Majority of the storm using Auto Settings. this is critical as it will not fail you. Once you feel like you got a good part of it, you can than Dial in the ISO and play with the F Stop. One...

The inset disk on the back looks to be metal mesh, so I'm wondering if it's part heat-sink: part common ground plate... so glue would be a no-no.
