Are you a Pilot or an Aviator?

I find this theory offensive. It is loaded with unwarranted, disparaging presumption (lying, seeking self-importance, etc.) If someone flies drones and says without qualification they are a "pilot", just what is deceptive about that statement? Same question if they have obtained a p107...

Are you a Pilot or an Aviator?

Well, calling yourself a doctor (context medical) when you're not is something I care about. Just sayin'... The problem is when someone is a "thing", and someone else is a different class of that thing that is maybe more rigorous, so they claim the first party isn't a "real" one. I find that...

HELP! Mini 2 moving on its own!

In the "Occam's Razor" hierarchy, I'd say RF interference is pretty low on the list. Far more likely some flexing around that repaired joint causing a lateral component of thrust (as @Cafguy described), confusing the Flight Controller as it tries to compensate assuming all the thrust is going in...

    Motor Overloaded Error

Also try rotating all 4 motors by hand, one or more of them may be obviously more resistant to turning, or have one or more places in rotation that seems to catch and need a little more force to get past. They should all turn and feel the same.

    Reusing waypoint flights

THIS IS A VERY LONG POST... READ IT IN ITS ENTIRETY TO LEARN ABOUT HOW GPS ACCURACY VARIES DYNAMICALLY, AND HOW TO PLAN A MISSION WITH THE MOST ACCURACY POSSIBLE ____________________________________________ Waypoint coordinates will be no more precise than you experience with RTH without...

    How does RID work?

Just to be absolutely clear, if "flying device" means the aircraft, I'm pretty sure in fact the aircraft is required to have GPS, or have an attached RID module with GPS. In the context of our discussion, I'm pretty sure you were referring to the control station, but for the benefit of others...

    How does RID work?

No, I don't. To be clear, however, I tried to be careful in my responses above and speak of "location services", not specifically GPS. Although I do see I referenced GPS in my initial response #30, so I completely understand your response. My fault entirely. In #34, I said, "...refuse to start...

Are you a Pilot or an Aviator?

There was (and maybe still is?) a similar sort of "real diver" sort of snottyness in the SCUBA community 25 years ago when I was an active YMCA Instructor. PADI certified divers were considered not "real" by the YMCA and NAUI divers. I never liked this. While it's true the PADI program was far...

    How does RID work?

DJI Fly will let you take off without your control station location? That's news to me. IIRC the regs explicitly disallow that, but that's from memory... I'll look it up later. I can say from direct experience I can't take off with my Avata without control station location, get an RID error. I...

    How does RID work?

And DJI Fly will give you an RID error and refuse to start the motors if there is no working location services available on the device. Note this "enforcement" only occurs with RID capable drones. Older models that must comply using an external module will not be blocked. Try it.

    How does RID work?

The full technical details are available in the regulations passed in the Federal Aviation Regulations. The very technical details you are asking about... I've skimmed it myself. Easy to find with a few minutes of Google searching. If I had the links handy, I'd share them. To get them, I'd have...

DJI Mini 4 Pro Charger outputs

@leebroath, that Hqeeun charger ain't cheap (U$80), but I'm an EE and obsessed with knowing what voltages, current, power is flowing to my devices with all the flexibility of Power Delivery. It's cool to see the Avata 4x charging bar negotiate 20V and then truly pull down 65W while charging the...

HELP! Mini 2 moving on its own!

The single most common mistake made soldering is using too much solder on the solder joint. These are some sure ways to make that mistake 😁

HELP! Mini 2 moving on its own!

Well, I can only say I was taught the exact opposite while in college getting my EECS, with a very strong admonishment to heat the pad as little as necessary to create a good solder joint. Otherwise, the pad can become detached from the underlying fiberglass. I have experienced this... Anyone...
