Generally the rule is 50feet from a person and 150feet from a building or structure. If in reach hose the **** thing down and state you were simply watering the garden. That should scare him away.

You don't need your phone or tablet to fly the drone. I often fly without hooking up to my mobile and do exactly that, take pics of the drone.

What is the point of the question? Anyway, VLOS is not just about seeing your drone but seeing the terrain your drone is in. Amazingly some people think it's some sort of achievement to go beyond the bounds and some even exaggerate them.

Tuff luck but through incidents like this we learn. Flew mine into tent inner wall trying to be clever. No damage but drifted afterwards. Calibrated imu and problem solved.
