    Carry on

I've carried mine on many times with no issues regarding batteries or props. A lipo would have to be pretty huge to exceed the whatt hour limits. Just be cautious coming into the country.... if customs spots it, they will levy a 40% import tax!

Any new information about taking a drone to Ecuador, Peru, Chile?

I can confirm that the current rules in Ecuador involve levying an import tax on any drone valued over $500. The import tax is about 40% of market value. People do bring in drones all the time without any problems as long as they are the folding type that don't have the telltale "Phantom" shape...

    Central and South America

As mentioned above, the current law in Ecuador states that a drone over $500 brought into the country is subject to import taxes. Plan on around 40% of market value if customs assess a tax. They'll determine market value by checking Amazon. The only way around this is to prove that it is for a...

My channel is an Ecuador travel blog: Ecuador Live Ecuador has breathtaking scenery and is a drone-friendly place; folks are more likely to be curious than to complain about your drone. I would love your support, and I'm happy to sub/follow back, just drop a comment here or on YouTube so I...

    Taking my Mavic to Ecuador

You won't get hassled for flying your drone in Ecuador (unless of course you are doing something super obnoxious). People here have a "do what you want" sort of attitude and enforcement of rules and laws in general is pretty lax. There are rules for flying drones issued by the DAC (Directorate...

    Peru

Wow, very honest of you to declare it at customs. That's great to know that they have a fair way to deal with drones, i.e., that you get the tax back when you leave. Makes perfect sense when you think about, serves as a guarantee against illegal imports. In Ecuador you can't fly in the...

So you've got an Ecuadorian wife too, eh? That's great that you come to Cuenca every now and again! I'll be Guayaquil next week, it's a great place : ) If you do the drive from Cuenca to Guayaquil, you should DEFINITELY bring along your Mavic, there are some amazing flying opportunities as...

    Peru

I totally agree with you! It's sooo frustrating for customs offers to tell you you're not allowed or have to pay a bunch of money to have your drone, when there are REAL threats out there that customs should be worrying about like drugs, weapons, etc. But, it's actually not an anti-drone...

    Taking my Mavic to Ecuador

Glad to hear you guys made it through! I'm thinking about bringing in a Mavic on my next trip...I'm betting on an 80% chance of getting in without tax and 20% chance of having to pay up. I was even considering a Spark just because the $499 price point puts it below the customs threshold of...
