    3 Blood Moon last night

Nice photos, @PhotoDB ! I like how an eclipsed moon appears more clearly spherical than an ordinary full moon, and your pictures are good examples. It looks like a floating marble. It was cloudy here in the San Francisco Bay Area, but not as cloudy as I thought. This picture was taken around...

Legality of tethered or otherwise attached drone.

Excerpt from Title 49 of the United States Code (49 U.S.C.) § 40102, Definitions: (41) “public aircraft” means any of the following: (A) Except with respect to an aircraft described in subparagraph (E), an aircraft used only for the United States Government, except as provided in section...

Legality of tethered or otherwise attached drone.

I've been unable to find any reference to 'passively' tethered drones, i.e., simply fixed to a stationary point. §44806 refers to Public Actively Tethered UAS, and the rules seem similar to untethered drones, with some differences. @Vic Moss I respect and admire your knowledge and experience...

Legality of tethered or otherwise attached drone.

§44801 (1) ... The term "actively tethered unmanned aircraft system" means an unmanned aircraft system in which the unmanned aircraft component— (A) weighs 4.4 pounds or less, including payload but not including the tether; (B) is physically attached to a ground station with a taut...

Legality of tethered or otherwise attached drone.

Would a drone fixed to a zipline or other such stationary point be subject to the same rules as moored balloons and kites?

    Mini Northern California

Thanks! I am lucky for the chance to fly such a beautiful location!

    Mini Northern California

I agree, @TommyP. Much of this area burned last summer, but is already showing signs of renewal. Yes, @Effects, this is Napa County, east of town.

    Mini Learning to Fly

On my monitor, the YouTube post (#1) is characterized by stutter and blur, especially in 'full screen.' The Vimeo post (#12) looks almost like the original file, even in full screen, smooth and sharp. Do other monitors disagree?

    Mini Northern California

You're a lucky new pilot when your old friend is a ranch manager in Northern California Wine Country.

Likewise, nice talking with you. I hope you'll benefit from this forum, and I look forward to seeing what you do with your new flying camera. Here's a snippet of my dolly zoom practice today, just before we met.

    Mini Learning to Fly

Yes, @SpitFire, perfect for practice, clear views, open space at all altitudes, from the rolling hills on up. Formerly the city dump. Is it difficult to fly in the Windy City in winter? Wow, @micinqld, helluva spot! You're gonna fly from there to another mountain? I'm looking forward to that!

Mini Around the countryside on a foggy morning

Looks like a fine place to be a pilot, and not a bad place to be a pig! Here's hoping you can get that red/green flashing worked out. I'm looking forward to your next video.
