I have the same problem.
Barn swallows like to do fake out dives when literally anything gets near them and their nests. They'll never hit your drone, but nevertheless they make a spectacle of themselves.
make a vertical ascent and leave the area to get away from their swarm. Come mid August...
Took a few shots from my family's lakelot near Cherhill in Alberta. Not particularly exciting, but the area is quite lovely. Taken at around 90M. Cheers!
A quick vertical ascension seems to be the concensus on bird attacks. I've only tried it once since starting the thread but it worked on the same barn swallows, so I'd say it's the best course of action.
As far as bird attacks go, very few actually manage to knock a mavic out of the sky, if the bird makes contact at all. Mostly they seem to use scare tactics, swooping and diving close but rarely hitting your drone.
The most important thing to remember is leaving the area quickly, with vertical...
Looks like hawks, yeah. Barn swallows aren't any bigger than a chicken nugget, but hawks have the weight to put up a fight! Impressive pictures everyone!
Never had a major issue, even after wind velocity warnings.
It's probably a good idea to do an inspection and test maneuvers before getting up there. I mean, I don't do this every time I fly, but doing more or less regular check ups should prevent the worst from happening.
just finished a heart pounding flight home after I had a small flock of barn swallows doing fake-out nose dives at my mavic, some passing within meters of my gimbal. I figure I'd flown over a nesting area and promptly gtfo.
Just thought I'd gather people's thoughts or experiences with upsetting...
