What about the flight data from the flight log? Details matter. How far did it drift to the right? What were the wind conditions? When did it achieve best GPS connections?

As long as you maintain VLOS meaning you control the drone by visual sight, not using any looks at the controller screen AND you fly when the sight visibility is at least 3 miles you should be fine. Losing VLOS and reduced visibility means the flight is not legal.

Open or not, I would say "it depends". Did you purchase it new directly from DJI or assumed to be new from a re-seller? If from a re-seller you can't be certain what is in the box is really brand new as it could be replaced and re-sealed to look like new. I would open to make sure it is new...

That's my point. You couldn't see the drone so you were aware of total surroundings; thus the crash.

That seems to be the best explanation as to why you allowed the crash. I think VLOS would have prevented the problem.

I know I could see a recording. I just wanted to know what you visually saw the drone do the environment around the drone, that rear, front, up, and down, with an estimate of height above surface as you could see it with your unaided eyes.

But you did not visually see the drone at the time, correct? So you could not say you definitive say that there were no waves anywhere around the drone based on your own view?
