You could always get actual insurance on the drone. Cost is between $50-70 depending on the company and it covers more than The Refresh Program. Only downside is you won't likely have expedited shipping back from DJI and will instead have to buy a new one and join the wait.
I've flown mine a few days where the temp was between 20-28F. My fingers were frozen the first time! After that I opted for some thin warm gloves. The Mavic did great, although the battery didn't last 27 minutes.. as you would expect. It did last about 20 minutes though.
Go watch the release video on their website, in several instances they show the drone being flown without the globe/bubble. Use common sense when flying without it and consider your surroundings. I fly mine with it off 99% of the time.
