I believe when your drone is registered in your country of residence, in this case UK, you no longer need to register it in France. You can then just fly there under the current French rules.

They do use a dedicated radio channel, but I'm sure they also use GPS. In any case, it does not seem easy to navigate on such a busy river, especially at night.

I did not know that you can set a different homepoint other than your current location, and I wonder if this is very easy to accomplish by (perhaps accidentally) just pressing a few buttons.
