That's a good point, I should have been clearer I meant a shotgun. It's range is much more limited and done safely all the time. Any handgun or rifle would never be safe to shoot in the air.

These stories drive me crazy. Personally I see no excuse for ever firing a gun in the air like this, out in the middle of nowhere or where it's clearly safe sure. I shoot at my in-laws where its safe, so I understand the desire to use a gun but it's still irresponsible in this particular...
