Thanks for all of the analysis on this incident. It has helped me, as a new PIC, to take it easy going up to get a feel for sudden changes in wind speed and direction. I’m also glad the wife said get the Zoom instead of the Mini. There are just too many issues with the Mini.

I use the “Flightradar24” app on my phone to monitor for aircraft and helicopter traffic. It’s like learning a new language when listening to ATC radio communications. Without the app, you wouldn’t know what flight they are talking to.

I think you can turn your drone controller on to get your coordinates

It looks like the area is Class D airspace. You should be able to get approval thru a LAANC provider like AirMap or Kitty Hawk

I knowingly purchased a “refurbished” M2 Zoom and the 5th letter from the end is “S”. I haven’t had any trouble with it “yet”.

The Pilot’s Institute course is available on Udemy for $19.95 instead of $149. It’s called “ UAS/Drone Remote Pilot Test Prep for Part 107” by Greg Reverdiau. It’s the exact same material.

It was apparently was an open box, even though it was sealed like new when I got it. I wouldn’t have known otherwise.

I got my Mavic 2 Zoom Super Pro Bundle (refurbished) for $1,158 from the DJI Superstore on eBay. I feel I got a great deal.
