Long Island Ocean Beaches: anyone know where you are allowed to fly?

Tobay Beach belongs to the Town of Oyster Bay. It is illegal to fly from any town facility UNLESS your drone weighs less than 2 pounds. https://ecode360.com/32592187 Also you can get a permit from Suffolk County which permits flying over certain County parks and beaches (in the off season)...

How do you feel about launching from parking lots and sidewalks?

I find an unobtrusive spot in a parking lot and hand launch Mini 2) out the window (I have long arms) then land right next to the car and get out and grab it quickly. No effect on the drone compass but the phone compass is affected by the metal in the car. If I fly from a bench i try to find one...

Relationship between drone compass and device compass

Thanks. That basically confirms what I'm saying. I'm surprised I never saw that detailed an explanation amidst the numerous posts about this issue. Yes, there were comments about phone calibration in the controller but I never saw anything about pointing at an object. Thanks again.

Relationship between drone compass and device compass

Thanks for all your responses. I'm trying to keep this simple. Richard, in your picture, that situation gives the appearance of an error which has been discussed frequently here, particularly with the M and M2. Would it be safe to say that, assuming that the drone imu and compass are correct...

Relationship between drone compass and device compass

It is the drone's compass reading however; that is being displayed and it is up to the pilot to recognize any misalignment and move the takeoff...

Relationship between drone compass and device compass

I frequently see posts that stress the importance of insuring that the drone is not near ferrous metal when starting up so that the drone compass will not be affected. Secondly, it is important to insure that the compass on the device displays the same direction that the drone is pointed. I have...

Flying a drone from a parked vehicle?

The only problem I have encountered when flying from the car is that the compass in the phone is affected by the metal from the car. I hand launch out the window or outside a few feet away from the car. This guy flies from the car frequently. The technical issues can be debated ad nauseam...

Lake George incident - reckless or not?

You didn't follow the law of common sense by arguing with the officer. There is an old saying about knowing when to stand up and when to shut up.

DJI Mini SE Return Home and Samsung compatibility

    1. The S8 may work but it is not on DJI's list of approved devices. https://www.dji.com/downloads/djiapp/dji-fly 2. The drone will RTH to the place from which it was launched.

Nassau County Parks. I have searched the internet for any Nassau County specific regulations regarding drones and have not been able to find any. Today I spoke with a NC police officer and he was unaware of any county specific regulations. There are state and local town and village regs but...
