Mavic Pro: why DJI doesn't fix this huge flickering/compression problem?

Only with the paid-for version of DaVinci Resolve can you use the temporal and spacial noise filter(s). I bit the bullet and bought a Neat Video license and with a pre-set noise profile from Film-Poets get good results within acceptable parameters of the originally shot material. In other words...

Cloud shadows only moving every 8 frames

Having a slow shutter speed helps - as does a brightly lit day - and using an ND filter 8 and above.

Mavic Pro: why DJI doesn't fix this huge flickering/compression problem?

Today having now done my first test - I've found a better setup, that resolves my main issue with the jerky/jumping clouds. I filmed at UHD rather than full 4K and that gives the image engine, space either side of the full 4K to refine its predictive image buffering - at least that's what I...

Mavic Pro: why DJI doesn't fix this huge flickering/compression problem?

Indeed in terms of the specs we should not be getting these artefacts on spatially low frequency parts of the image. Even when the chip is streaming out the 720p footage for the RC/phone view. So it would seem a not so good software implementation - hobbling the camera's fully capabilities.

Mavic Pro: why DJI doesn't fix this huge flickering/compression problem?

Humm I'll be doing some tests as soon as the weather is good enough. After a more thorough scrutiny of my footage, it would seem the 'jumping cloudscapes' follows a slow yaw/pan while recording. I'm thinking that there's something to do with low frequency buffering of areas of low contrast while...

Cloud shadows only moving every 8 frames

Have posted a similar request/quest for this issue over on the H264 thread. However all the answers given are for high frequency artefacts and no one has yet got an answer to this low contrast intra-frame stepping problem. Here's a short cropped section that I shot as 4K 24fps D-log +1,0,0...

Mavic Pro: why DJI doesn't fix this huge flickering/compression problem?

Hi peeps, I'm looking at a slightly different but I think related issue with the Mavic Pro/Platinum codec H264 temporal compression regime. Basically I'm getting jerky cloudscapes when doing a slow fixed position pan (yaw). The high resolution detail conforms to the expected GOP issues covered...

    Pre-Order & Shipping Thread

Looks like DJI have got things sorted out now with the MPP production line. Received my MPP direct from Shenzhen yesterday (24th UK) order was placed on the DJI store 5th Sept. 2017. All in good working order. Interestingly the box labels show a UK specific order - so I'd say DJI have done...

    Pre-Order & Shipping Thread

Well I got a note that my order MPP plus aircraft sleeve (5th Sept.2017 UK DJI store) is 'shipped' - and took delivery today of just the sleeve ... still the wait is on. Now whether the partial order shipped is a good sign or a bad one - will just have to wait see. o_O

    Pre-Order & Shipping Thread

Ordered just the bird (MPP) on 5/9 so will be roundly PO'd if newer orders are fulfilled (shipped) before us 'early adopters'. Maybe DJI are hoping we just press the refund button and there by mitigate their underproduction problem.

will the FAA know if i fly over 400Ft?

For checking local air traffic including emergency service flights, I use Planefinder (IOS app) from Pinkfoot. Most aircraft fly above 500ft unless in a search or landing mode. Worth keeping in mind that visual pilots will use roads/rail-tracks/rivers and landmarks as guides to position if needed.
