To this day, there is no specific limit set around just how much air space one has control of which surrounds one’s property or structures on that property. Causby simply noted that, in that particular case and circumstances, an overflight of the petitioner’s property by a large heavy aircraft...
Law enforcement has experimented with trained eagles to catch and remove unauthorized drones midair from restricted airspace e.g. over sports stadiums, etc.
Personally I always thought this was a little hazardous for the eagle, as, it would seem, there’s a good chance the drone’s propellers...
I don’t know whether that’s a factory stock drone, or whether this guy has made modifications to the aircraft or the flight control firmware. Also note that I referenced density altitude, which is altitude referenced based on air density in standard conditions, not from MSL. If the camera crew...
It’s my understanding that, at least with DJI factory firmware, the Mavic 2 series are software limited to fly no higher than 500 m/1650 ft AGL. The performance of the factory motors, controllers and propellers limit the drone to a maximum ceiling of 19,000 ft density altitude. Now whether...
That area is Class E4 airspace at the surface and does require a clearance to fly in. I’d guess that the FAA is just placing the signs up to the average (and ignorant) person on the street with a drone who flies the thing without any other though as though it was a toy.
You’ll have to check the Sedona Municipal Code, Coconino and Yavapai County Codes and the Arizona Code for further details, but I don’t see any reason that you cannot fly in or near Sedona, especially if you hold a Remote Pilot Certificate.
He’s right; though I would invest in a copy of ASA’s FAR/AIM app for smartphones and mobile devices. They provide the user with automatic updates to 14 CFR regs applicable to pilots and the $10 cost is easier than having to spend $17 every year for a new copy.
What you really need to study and...
Sorry to hear that. It’s an expensive lesson: no matter what obstacle detection system is abouard your aircraft, it’s still no substitute for see and avoid using your Mk I eyeballs. Certain contrast patterns or lack thereof cannot be detected by the sensors. And the Mavic does have blind...
No actually that is a tower. The antennas used for transmitting TV broadcasts are up near the top and are visible in the last minute or so of the video. And no, I don’t recall saying that there is no such thing as EMI coming off the tower; I’m just not sure what level of EM flux would be strong...
Never had any problems with this. I did a drone survey of a cell tower once using the Phantom IV, and the only problems noted was there was a little bit of interference between the camera’s telemetry and the ground station when I was very close to one of the cell antennas. I have never seen any...
That is the weirdest thing I can think of. I just recently used my Mavic 2 Pro to shoot footage of a TV tower out in Georgia and never had any issues. The antennas on the top of the tower are pumping out way more energy (>1 MW) than any cell tower does. The drone was around 10-15 feet from...
Fundamental lesson here is in any emergency:
DONT PANIC; FLY THE AIRCRAFT. I got this lesson from Jim Lovell, Commander of the Apollo 13 mission. There’s a famous interview with him about the crisis his crew experienced halfway to the moon and he talked about facing emergencies where, if...
