It has been overcast for 5 days

We've had a couple of months of rain, storms and snow. Lovely sunny day today but the winds were still too high to fly. Hopefully this week I can get my first flight in what seems ages.

CAA survey on Drone and Model Aircraft Safety

Yep, received it in my inbox this afternoon. It all seems quite innocuous, but I do wonder what instigated this. I certainly don't mind clear rules and regulations, but do have a concern that the worst case scenarios and behaviour, such as the recent incident at a football stadium, will drive...

    Who owns a Smart Watch?

Bought an Apple watch last year and the ECG function turned out to be extremely useful when I started experiencing atrial fibrillation. I used the data with both my GP and the hospital to show that AF had been occurring during sleep and for prolonged periods of time. It can get a bit annoying...

2 Pro Brought the wife a new car, so I did this quick view of it

Good choice - I have the SWB version. Last of the XJs.

Is it worth buying a new drone in the UK in 2022?

Thanks gents, that's pretty much my conclusion. I've had A2 C of C for over a year now in advance of the changes and did think that we would have a little more information than the current radio silence from both CAA and the manufacturers. At this rate I'll be buying a new drone as a retirement...

Is it worth buying a new drone in the UK in 2022?

I have had a Mini 2 for just over a year now. I enjoy flying it and the lack of obstacle avoidance has certainly helped improve my flying ability. However, as my main use for a drone is photography and I would like to upgrade to a better equipped camera with a larger sensor and more control -...

Howzit! New pilot checking in from Bangkok.

Howzit and welcome - have you moved to Thailand from SA?

Images opened in PS, LR, and Cap1 are being cropped automatically and are entirely different from preview. Help!

DNG files definitely work with Capture One - it's my main Cataloguing and RAW processing software. Just make sure that it's the full version and not one limited to a particular camera. e.g. the Sony only version of Capture One will only read Sony format RAW files. I've also just tested with...

    A2CofC 2021 UK

I found the course content interesting and, as a new drone user, learnt quite a bit about the rules and safe flying conditions that I wouldn't have picked up otherwise.

Mac or PC for video editing for my DJI Mini 2?

I've also used Mac for years and the M1 Mini is my next buy. However a lot of apps are still not running native for the M1 processor, which is a new development from Apple. However, I would think that it won't be long before most apps are silicon ready. The performance stats from this little box...

    A2CofC 2021 UK

I used UAVHub and it was very straightforward and the content of the course was well presented and geared towards passing the exam. They have changed the format slightly whereby the theory course is free but you pay £99 to take the exam.

Cheapest insurance for 2 months, for Africa

Total agree with AW's reply. I also lived in Southern Africa for many years and worked throughout the continent as a professional musician. Don't assume that in some countries the published rules are necessarily the ones that are adhered to at border crossings and airports. Sad to say that a...

Mini 2 "RC signal interference" with 24 sats and less than 75 meters from homepoint at 60 meters distance (no obstructions)

Had the same thing the past couple of flights. Flying on open moorland, no power lines. 27 satellites yet at only 30 metres altitude and 117 metres distance I had the RC signal interference. It cleared at 137 metres and then happened again at 214m. Very inconsistent and this is an an area where...

    UK postal charges

Same here. I buy quite a bit of musical and studio equipment from mainland Europe. Some have stopped supplying and with the additional transaction costs it's the same price to buy from a UK supplier if available. However, some of my modular equipment is made by small suppliers who cannot afford...
