    Flying within prohibited airspace?

Yes, the 0' ceiling block was what was showing in my LAANC app. I was just inside the area - about a football field away the ceiling is 50'. Again, I'm new at requesting authorization....

    Flying within prohibited airspace?

Yes, because it was within the controlled airspace of the local (major) airport, I had to apply directly to the FAA. But it was a relatively easy process. Now, hopefully, the DJI unlocking process next month will be similarly smooth sailing.

    Flying within prohibited airspace?

Thank you, MS Coast. These articles pointed me in the right direction. My FAA approval letter came through yesterday. Since the date is in mid-June, I found that DJI only unlocks about 30 days in advance, so entered a date on my calendar in mid-May to request access from them. The FAA process...

    Flying within prohibited airspace?

I am in the process of getting FAA authorization to fly within my local major airport's 5 mile zone. Given the specifics, I have every reason to believe it will be allowed. My question is, do I then need to do something with DJI or a related app to have the drone itself cleared by DJI to be in...

Anyone here has reservations over friction-mount strobe light mounts?

Never had a problem with the Velcro it came with. Certainly well-connected to the drone.

Part 107 pilots who also fly manned aircraft, is the written exam similar to the written for your private pilots license?

95% of my photography is pro-bono and 100% of my drone photography is pro-bono. Like above, I got my 107 so that I can video/photograph for non-profit groups. The cost was minimal (=an hour or two of flight-time) and the cost of a workbook. Everything else I learned from free-Youtube. And I felt...

Part 107 pilots who also fly manned aircraft, is the written exam similar to the written for your private pilots license?

About a quarter or a fifth of the test are drone-specific questions, including one or two that I had never seen before in any of the study that I had done. With a private ticket, you should have no problem with weather or chart questions which comprise most of the rest of the test.

RC Lost Contact with Drone; Couldn't Re-Establish

This happened to me when the drone briefly went behind a small outcropping and went out of VLOS (I was focused on the screen following a rower). But it DID respond to a RTH command.

    No drones allowed signs

The bridge itself may not be in a NFZ, although the bridge district says it is not permitted to fly “over or near“ the bridge. However, because of the National recreation area, there is no place to launch other than perhaps the corner of Marina and Lyon, 2 miles from the bridge. So effectively...

Filming in lower resolution saves battery life on all drones.

Good to know, I guess,. But if I’m going to film something, I will choose resolution over a minute or two of battery Life almost every time.

Mini 4 Pro with Extended Plus batteries is OVER 249g!

<sigh> Nothing new here. DJI has always been out front with that information, for anyone who takes two minutes to read through the documentation. Unfortunately, most people don’t bother.

    Warning to bring it home

No need for a reply to this. Was filming a local dredging operation when I heard the “neighbors” beginning to chatter. After one flew by, I figured it was time to go to Sport mode and RTH asap. When I viewed the video later, there was this….

Thank you, Vic, that would be very appreciated!

    Mini 3 to Category 2?

I'm working on my Part 107 and wondering if a Mini 3 Pro can qualify for a Category 2 designation if I add propeller guards to it? They (and my 3SM strobe) will push it over .55 lbs, but that wouldn't matter for category 2. Doing the math on a the new weight of approximately 0.61 lb, it would...
