Just returned from a trip to Hawaii on Sunday. Carried my Mavic and the batteries (in Lipo-safe bags) inside a carry-on. I was never questioned or asked to open it.

I have Neweer ND filters and have had no issues with gimbal calibration or anything else. The ND32 has been a permanent fixture on my Mavic for a couple of months now.
Not sure what you mean by "stick". Any chance yours is slightly misaligned? Another possibility is that part of the friction...
I'm running version 4.1.15 and have been since I got the phone last November. I cached the maps I need and keep all unnecessary apps turned off (or removed if possible). Battery life is great. One of the best $50.00 purchases I've made.
I second Robert's recommendation. I've been using one since last November and am happy with it. The screen is larger and brighter than my iPhone SE, though smaller than a tablet would be. Fits easily in my hard case and the battery lasts forever with wi-fi turned off.
I carry mine in it's foam-lined hard case inside the tour pack on my bike. I wrap a jacket or something around the case as a little extra protection. You could do something similar with a soft bag that straps on the rack and is large enough for the case. Perhaps something like this Kuryakyn...
