About 2 years ago, when I first started flying with a Mini 2, the images were downloaded to my iPhone “on the fly.” Somewhere after that, that feature went away. I now fly an Air 3 and I transfer images to my iPhone or iPad using Quick Transfer, which works quite well at the end of a flight.
