Aerial Mapping/Surveying - how to get started

A little late here, but hopefully I can contribute to OP or anyone else asking this question: The M2P is a great drone for photography but a middle-of-the road drone for mapping (and less so for surveying), and that opinion stems from two factors. Rolling Shutter - the rolling shutter on...

    Anyone use extended landing gears?

I use them because I don't want to carry a takeoff/landing pad around when I'm flying for fun and it keeps the props out of the grass. They're great. You can tell the UAV isn't anticipating them when you auto-land on pavement, it looks like it sets down "early". But it isn't any big deal. In...

    Lost Drone Not Sure Why

This is my worst fear. Maybe I shouldn't have purchased a unit that - if this happened - I'm not sure I could afford a new one of? Before flying it's a good idea to check the Kp Index for the day/your area. I use the app "UAV Forecast" to check it out. I have no idea how accurate it is (I...

    MA: Drone Flyers Chime In

I grew up in Dennis near Little Beach (which I guess the Town now calls "Haborview" which is laaaaaame). I'm in Plymouth now, but I get down there every now and then.

Repurchase Mavic Pro 2 or wait until Mavic Pro 3

Uh oh, someone I disagree with is on the interweb...what should I do? Maybe I can come up with a rebuttal that will either change their mind or insult their intelligence? /s (kidding) I guess I'm looking at this from a commercial market perspective and from what I see (and the reports I'm...

    1st ever failure

Well said. I remember when I decided to try going up at night. It was in a very rural area that I had already flown in earlier during the day so I thought I'd be good. Nope. Even with the navigation lights on the arms - I don't know what it is about night time flying - but I seem to lose 95%...

    1st ever failure

As someone who replied suggested, I'm guessing there was some smoke/dust/firework bits flying around and it interfered with the mechanics of the motor. I honestly can't think of a good way to mitigate that type of risk, even being up-wind, you never know what happens up there. I thought about...

    1st ever failure

This is what I was thinking. Operating a drone with near all the ash and left-over bits is very risky. I presume something got into the drone motors' air cooling holes and it ( Mod Removed )anguage i t up. It sucks that it happens, but I can't imagine flying the way the OP pilot described...

    Drone Harmony New features

The one thing I wish they would add is the ability to rename flight areas. Its a petty request but one that I wish they had. I can see how DroneDeploy would have a quick payback, but I'm always looking for the lesser expensive alternative. Plus I've had good customer service from DH.

    DroneHarmony?

Anyone use DroneHarmony in lieu of something like the DroneDeploy app? I bought a license for it a few weeks ago and have used it for a handful of projects. It lets you plan flights both in the app and online (like Litchi/others) but it also has some pre-built waypoints for site mapping like...

    Phone connection

I recommend cleaning out the connection port on your phone. I just did this with a sewing needle and it improved connections on everything, including my DJI controller. Crap gets in there, its just how it is. When I have had connection issues, I've found that by quickly pulling the...

Repurchase Mavic Pro 2 or wait until Mavic Pro 3

While many have given their input, I thought I'd share my perspective which I don't think is being talked about: with the current drone industry trajectory, no matter what you do you're going to be susceptible to buyers remorse. Because newer and newer technology is always going to be coming to...

Mavic pro 2 newwwwb please help

I see someone mentioned the polarized filters. I bought a set - 3 filters for varying lighting conditions - and they're great. Highly recommend. I personally wouldn't buy any aftermarket props. I've seen some advertised as having benefits over the stock, but as an engineer I just know...
