We spent Christmas in San Clemente with family and I managed to get several flights in around the city. Rained most everyday!

We have 3 deserts here in the southwest but the Sonoran is my favorite. Native Americans thought of these Sahuaro cactus as spirits or humans and they sure do give off that feeling to me. Flying at ground level through this forest gets my old heart pounding, too much fun!

Thanks folks. The plateau above gets a lot more rain than below and has much cooler temps than the desert floor, so a lot of Junipers and pines grow up there. I love the contrast. I believe the rock is mostly Aztec sandstone and it extends all the way to Las Vegas in certain areas, the red color...
