Never had any problems, even when flying a couple of feet above power lines here in the UK!

I remove the sim card from my phone and pop in to the dongle. If I'm flying from my house, I connect the controller to my home WiFi. If I'm out of the house, I use the WiFi hotspot from my wife's phone to connect to the controller. Both methods work really well assuming the 4G coverage is good...

As a short term measure, have you thought about buying a used RC2 from ebay, then when you're finished with, sell it?
