    Howdy from Studio City, CA

I assume you have tried the RC field just south of Van Nuys airport? Didn't know FPV had taken it over. We have a member on the forum that posts many fine videos from his flights just north in the valley. Maybe he will weigh in. I also live in Studio City but tend to fly on my travels

WHY do people call it 'MISSIONS'???

Just a note: The FAA used to define NOTAMs as Notice to Airmen. With the latest computer code problem that shut down the NOTAM system it is now defined as Notice to Air Missions. I believe the change was caused by "degenderfying" the term but just putting it out there that we are subject to NOTAMS.

Did you report your crash to the NTSB?

Just curious how many pilots out there who have had serious crashes with no property damage or injuries have actually complied and reported to the NTSB

    TFR for the Super Bowl

Also interesting since the new stadium is just 1/2 mile from the final approach to LAX so I doubt they are banning flights into LAX

Current Fixed Wing Pilot Transition to Part 107

Again may be different now but I went to the FSDO with my test results an paperwork and logbook. I had to have a current CFI written signoff of my being Part 61 current (biennial). Was very fast and simple

How are the film studios flying NY and DC

Brilliant idea! Before my grandfather passed I had always wanted to buy him a flight on the Goodyear Blimp moored in Long Beach. I regret not have followed through.

How are the film studios flying NY and DC

There is a strange old law on the books in NYC about no takeoffs and/or landings but it may be more complicated than that. If one ggogles NYC drone laws I think others more knowledgeable have explained it. Of course there are plenty of videos on youtube of drone pilots flying Manhatten, even...

How are the film studios flying NY and DC

Sorry I understand now. I guess I have remained frustrated by NYC's rules. We had the resources (Paramount Studios) to even go directly to the NYC mayor and still were turned down for drone work and thus had to use real helicopters for our cinematography.

How are the film studios flying NY and DC

So I am confused. You state that you shot on the outer banks. But I am talking about shooting from a drone over Manhatten for a dramatic film shoot. We have not had issues in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Vancouver, etc. NYC has a whole different system. The FAA is not involved with their...

How are the film studios flying NY and DC

I would like to hear from one film production that got approval to fly and shoot in NYC. And I mean Manhatten. We tried on a 120 million dollar film and could not get past the city laws which go back decades. The FAA is not the issue. It is where the drone takes off and lands. That is why my...

2 Pro Leopard Sharks in La Jolla, CA (San Diego)

I think I saw you down at the Shores beach around the Marine room? We were swimming all weekend and there were so many around our feet.

    Seagull Drone Attack Prevention

I have commercial film drone pilots in Vancouver who often ask the police if they can shoot a shotgun off just prior to taking off. This keeps the gulls away for 15-20 minutes. I know this is not a practicle solution for 99% of you just throwing it out there.

    Fly Over Squamish BC

I just spent a week in Squamish on a job. Beautiful work. I don't feel it is dark at all. Love the Chief!

Mavic 2 Pro.Why 28mm equivalent rather than wider?

Thank you Vindibona1. I often use my Mavic Pro for scouting a location and have to communicate FOV to the professionals using Inspires, Matrix or even heavy lifters with professional motion picture cameras (Red, Arri Alexas). I have an app that can generate comparisons between FOVs of all these...

Mavic 2 Pro.Why 28mm equivalent rather than wider?

When talking about focal lengths on drone cameras it is more helpful (as one poster stated) to use FOV (field of view) Each camera has a certain sensor size and thus decides what the FOV is with a certain focal length. I believe the Mavic Pro 2 has a field of view of 71 degrees. On the inspire 2...
