I have 2 original Mavic Pro’s, the 2nd one I use as a backup I’ve only flown once, I haven’t updated them in years and don’t intend to, hopefully I’ll be able to fly them both indefinitely!
I've had the one of the first Mavic Pro’s and all 5 of my original batteries are working perfectly. Zero swelling, and no noticeable difference in flight time.
I got one of the first Mavic’s that rolled off the assembly line, I fly it all the time and it’s never been crashed. I did have several starter drones previously and wrecked them lots.
Don’t update ANYTHING, that’s my solution, if it’s working leave it be, updating just brings more restrictions, I haven’t done an update in 3 years and I’m a happy man, I can do and fly anywhere I could 3 years ago.
I haven’t updated my firmware in 2 years, and I’m a happy man for it, it just causes more problems and more restrictions, just ignore the updates and no worries!
If it won’t return to home even though it says it is, immediately suspect that it’s either the wind or the sun that’s the cause, if it’s the wind or the sun, I put it in sport mode (which turns off the forward sensors allowing it to fly into the sun), and if the wind is the culprit, sport mode...
The same thing happened to me shooting video of a steel bridge that was being torn apart, there’s lots of steel there and it’s going to mess with the compass every time in my experience. As long as I still have video feed it continue on business as usual.
I remember getting a “do’s and dont’s for Mavic owners” email from DJI sometime in the last year about flipping into or out of sports mode while in motion and it was highly discouraged.
You must have been in a hole surrounded by terrain without a good view of the sky. Since you were picking up 5-7 satellites the GPS WAS working. Sounds like it was not a good location to me.
