Active Track Prevented Return to Boat

Yes - I've been caught out by having Spotlight mode on, and being confused as to why I couldn't turn past a certain point as it would put the subject I was filming out of frame. My fault for forgetting I was using that mode to keep it in shot. Not a fault obviously, just something to remember :)

    Alternatives to “Proper” Drone Mats…….

If I'm in my car and flying in an area with long grass or uneven ground then I've often used a car mat. With my Mini 1 I used the FlyMore case - it's big enough to take off and land on. For my Mini 3 Pro I only have a hard case that's a little larger than the drone itself, so that's fine for...

    Iceland apps

Replied to your other post :) You will need Name, Address, Phone number and your EASA Operator ID on the drone. That's €30 to take the test, valid for 5 years in any EASA country (EU+Iceland, Norway, Switzerland etc). More information on the Icelanic Aviation Authority website: Drones

    Iceland question

Have a read of the Iceland Aviation Authority's drone website. Drones You will need an EASA Operator ID (€30 plus a test, valid for 5 years in any EU country (plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland etc). Name, address, phone number and EASA Operator ID need to be on the drone. There is also a link...

Confused about Spain drone rules (for Mini 3 Pro)

Your EASA ID is sufficient for flights in the Open Category, however regions can set their own rules that restrict things in local areas. More information at the Spanish Aviation Authority website: How to fly a UAS in Spain | AESA-Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Aérea - Ministerio de Fomento

Take off and landing required by law? 150m away for A3?

He has IAA (Irish Aviation Authority) registration, in addition to his UK CAA registration, so that should be fine. I believe Croatia has a few local differences from the general EU/UK restrictions - but generally the EASA rules apply for the actual flight. You can fly your non-C marked drone...

EU Drone Operator Registration - Simple & Quick

I don't know about FPVUK, but BMFA's insurance says it covers short, occasional trips outside the UK within Europe too. Remember the insurance covers you, the member, not the drone as such. The operator ID you go through FPVUK should be from the CAA (through the Article 16 Exemption FPVUK and...

EU Drone Operator Registration - Simple & Quick

Hmm, strange that you had to pay twice - my Icelandic one gave the proof of training (ISL-RP-<12 characters>) certificate and the operator registration (ISL<13 characters>) for the one 5500ISK/£32/€30 payment and test. The documentation shows that ISLxxxxxxxxxxxxx number as being what I need to...

EU Drone Operator Registration - Simple & Quick

I did the Icelandic one: Flydrone Available in English and the questions are way simpler than the UK BMFA and CAA tests. Cost 5500ISK (about £33), valid for 5 years.

Is it worth getting a drone (for photos) when there are few places to fly in the UK?

I've seen on a couple of the TV shows (Police Interceptors/Traffic Cops etc) that most forces now have thermal camera drones for searching for missing persons and people on the run - guess it's a lot cheaper and quicker to get airborne than calling in a helicopter. Seems a good application to me.

Is it worth getting a drone (for photos) when there are few places to fly in the UK?

Site of Special Scientific Interest - essentially an area that has legal protection usually due to being a rare or threatened natural habitat. Generally you don't want to be disturbing endangered wildlife, so should avoid getting too near SSSIs - especially during breeding seasons. Not illegal...

Including Phantoms, what drones/controllers record sound?

You can plug a microphone into the Host USB-C socket on the DJI RC transmitter (eg a USB-C headset). That allows you to record audio on the local screen recordings (eg commentary). But it doesn't do anything for the video recorded by the drone obviously.

Is it worth getting a drone (for photos) when there are few places to fly in the UK?

I tend to fly well away from people or buildings (minimises the chance of anyone being annoyed by the drone's presence), and also get up to 60m+ as soon as possible (you can't even hear a Mini 3 Pro at that height, and it's not easy to see if you don't know it's there). After of course checking...

Mini 3 Pro vs. Mavic 2 Pro

If you're planning on visiting the UK, you might find this link useful too: Introduction to CAA Drone regulations (pretty much the same as EASA in terms of the actual regulations, but you'll need a separate UK Operator ID).
