Original poster here. I have an update. The company the I purchased from, dronepoint.ca, agreed to exchange the drone based on a chat conversation I had with DJI. DJI chat rep said if I could get dronepoint.ca to exchange, then I should do so. The people at dronepoint.ca were very helpful...

Well isnt that interesting. I surely hope this is not a consistent problem with the batteries because DJI is a nightmare to deal with right now.

Agreed. Not yet at the surface of this drowning but i doubt firmware is to blame.

So i had a similar but much more serious issue. After a short flight and landing the drone would not power off. I turned off the controller and could not reconnect. Fan ran the whole time and smelled an electrical heat smell. Could not get it turned off and could not remove the battery...
