Top left of screen is a back button. Returns to previous screen. If this is the controller the OP is referring to. I have seen some describe the RC1A as a “Smart Controller”.

I have always used the joysticks in & to the bottom. I didn't even know there was "takeoff" button. I know there's a "return to home" button, but never saw the takeoff button.
