It is illegal to fly a drone at night in the US. You can fly day or during civil twilight which is approx 30 min before sunrise to 30 min after sunset.
Since all drones are supposed to be registered with the FAA, there should be a registration number, perhaps under the battery. Contact the FAA with that number to find owner. Returning to owner is the right thing to do.
