What happened had nothing to do with the gimbal position.
The clouds you tried to descend through were dense enough for the downward facing sensors to perceive them as solid ground.

Especially when an update could, potentially, result in the drone failing while in the air. They need to take more responsibility and fully disclose any changes.

That’s exactly my thought. That said, why would they bother to update a stable release after so long. It could simply be an OS compatibility update but without a release note, who knows.
