Try connecting to Goggles to your computer and using the DJI Assistant to update the firmware. Also make sure the firmware on the drone and RC is up to date.

Did you check the battery level of the Goggles before you went out to fly?
The battery in the Goggles does not hold its charge long term so if you charge it and then leave them for a week or so they will no longer be at full charge.

I use them while flying in doors. Outdoors they add drag and can act like sails in sudden gusts of wind.
That said if you're flying in close proximity of people or objects you care about, always use them.
