There are several reasons for this, mainly more and more inexperienced folks are diving in to the UAV world with no clue about the rules or the pitfalls. Just watch the videos all over Youtube. I wouldn't let some of these folks borrow my hammer (for fear they wouldn't know how to operate it).

GPS reception is the only concern I might have, but that would depend on the metallic content of the sticker material.. I know aluminum foil will block GPS.

@Downunder Did you disable the VPS before this flight?

Sounds like it may have thought it was over water...

Most of these reckless types will probably blame the equipment, in the event they cause any damage.

Mine was a brand new Samsung Galaxy note 4, from Amazon. I guess it sat on the shelf a while. I have swapped batteries for friends (in iPhones), but it can be dicey, depending on the model.
