2 Things I learned from these forums

If you think the wind is going to be a problem, launch into the wind and return with a tail wind so RTH doesn't use all of your battery juice. If you have a problematic headwind coming back, keep as low as you can, jink, and plan an emergency landing in an "ideal" location with enough juice to...

Very interesting arrest of drone pilots

Don't you think that these officers showed amazing restraint? Weren't they reasonable? They were honest enough to admit not knowing the intricacies of drone overflights over private properties, and were trying to get information from HQ. They received a complaint that sounded reasonable. My...

Is it really true that you can lazily fly your Mavic from inside your warm car?

I've seen guys take their dogs for a walk while they drive in the comfort of their car, but driving along, giving the Mavic exercise, cracks me up. I can't have mine follow me to work (physician), but it could follow me to get gas, and hover until my tank is full. Perhaps carry some donuts from...

Is it really true that you can lazily fly your Mavic from inside your warm car?

I'll try charging the iPhone to 100%. As I recall, it was probably below 50% when it gave me trouble.... In southern Alberta, chinooks can warm things up in hours. -20 to 20 in 24 hours can happen.

Is it really true that you can lazily fly your Mavic from inside your warm car?

Well, you guys are really pushing it. That's it. I'm going to fire up my skid steer, which is 3 tons of cold hard steel and launch it VLOS from the bucket.........or not....

Is it really true that you can lazily fly your Mavic from inside your warm car?

Thanks for the note. I don't plan to launch from the roof because I have a reflector kit which keeps dust or snow away, and launch from ground. From what I see on this site, there seem to be members who fly below 32F. I referred to -30 Celsius here which would be about -22F. So, I'm not...

Is it really true that you can lazily fly your Mavic from inside your warm car?

I can't believe that my iPhone 6 can't stand the cold, and begins to freeze up my DJI app. It is now -30 here in Alberta, but I would like to keep flying. I have read several posts where Mavic pilots have flown their rig from inside their vehicle. Probably not really line of sight, but laziness...

    Another warning about wind...

Porto, you should make this a sticky for archiving. Good stuff. All ears (eyes) here!

Move to Europe: Should I take the Mavic along?

Thanks for the note, Stan. I'm a professional who has just retired, and I will be serving as an advisor, not as a vacationer. it would be nice to capture some of the great beauty of the area. Our family roots are Saxony, down around Planitz. We had visited there a couple of years ago as...

    Another warning about wind...

So, to summarize all these great tips (Porto has summarized most): 1. Avoid flying if the wind speed is up significantly. This would be almost always in southern Alberta... 2. If you can, plan to fly your Mavic out against wind, fly back with. And plan to return with at least 50% battery. 3. If...

Move to Europe: Should I take the Mavic along?

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like it may be best to leave it at home.
