    Anyone in Ottawa?

While I was quite active last year when I first got my Mavic, I'm afraid that I've allowed it to sit on my shelf and gather dust since then for a variety of reasons (regulations being one). If there was some kind of non-MAAC drone enthusiasts gathering, I could be convinced to participate, sure...

    Canadian drone law

For the purpose of the legislation at hand, the fact that an aircraft could land somewhere is irrelevant. The only locations that matter are those listed/registered in the NAVCANADA Canada Flight Supplement and/or Canada Water Aerodrome Supplement.

    Canadian drone law

There used to be a difference between the two (3 nautical miles for heliports, instead of 5 for other aerodromes). Weird that it hasn't been updated yet...

Personally I prefer the NRC's UAV Site Selection Tool.

On the same page you quoted, please have a look at the Definitions section. According to that: So, they're saying that if you have a >35kg "flying thing without human", then it's not recreational - which is pretty reasonable. >35kg is pretty heavy - you're talking about something the size of a...

Here are a couple of other relevant links that I came across in other threads: From DJI's twitter feed: DJI on Twitter Excellent letter to M. Garneau by the president of Great Hobbies on Facebook: Great Hobbies - Great Hobbies CEO Jim Ewing writes about... | Facebook Petition on change.org...

    Canadian drone law

The SFOC process is absolutely out of the reach of the average hobbyist. Having looked at a sample application, I would be selling my drone before subjecting myself to such ridiculousness. Which is exactly my point: if the Mavic (and all of the Phantoms) are now only usable by those willing to...

    Anyone in Ottawa?

So, with the new Transport Canada regulations in effect, I'm shopping around for ideas of places to fly now. I've previously used Mer Bleue Bog (as you can see from further up in this post), and that continues to look OK, so long as I stay the requisite distance from other people. Until the...

    Canadian drone law

You'd have to be pretty committed: SFOC applications are most definitely non-trivial. There are plenty of other posts on the subject here in these forums (just do a search for "sfoc"), including an excellent sample application here. You'll see that it involves things like needing a spotter...

This forum is, of course, no the only place where people are discussing this same topic. Found some of the following other resources that have been useful to me: Recreational drone now illegal in most of Canada... Ottawa Multicopters Facebook Group transport Canada Regulations Limit Model...

    Canadian drone law

I don't think anyone reasonably expects the laws to be enforced in this manner. Were they to try, they would have to justify themselves to the media when the person charged $3000 for flying too close to a mosquito came forward in the press. Quite obviously the intent is to protect wildlife and...

    Canadian drone law

I'm inclined to agree; the heavy-handed regulations are an extreme overreaction that panders to FUD created by papers and politicians. The government appears to have a priori relations with the MAAC, so perhaps leveraging the MAAC's "MAP 01 - Precautions when flying model aircrat in locations...

Well, I see that you're in Abbotsford. According to this, it doesn't look like a whole lot of clean sky! Still, you're lucky to have some pretty mountains in your vicinity - no such dice here in the Ottawa area.

Does this effectively terminate the market for Mavic- and Phantom-class devices in Canada?

Was very satisfied with DJIGO App...downloaded DJI GO4 : DISASTER, multiples disconnections !!!

Hello, This behaviour is very similar to the problem that I described in a the thread that I posted here: DJI GO 4 video feed laggy/unusable (v3 works fine). The significant difference for me being that while I do suffer from regular and recurring disconnections on my tablet, my R/C still has...
