Anyone have experience in flying in Arizona Heat?

Pretty sure that quadcopters require all four motors to be operating for stability purposes. For one, having only three operating motors would cause a torque imbalance because two motors would be turning their props in one direction, and there would be only one motor turning its prop in the...

    Extension Cable for the Controller?

    Thanks for the info.

    Extension Cable for the Controller?

As you all know, the Mavic controller can drain an iPhone or other smartphone battery pretty quickly. So I would like to use my iPad in place of my iPhone by the cable from the controller is too short to allow this. Does anyone know if there is any available extension cable which can be used to...

Has anybody ever flown in a national park?

It's not just a matter of disturbing people. It's also a matter of disturbing wildlife, including birds. I don't know if that's a good justification for banning drones from all national parks, but that's the rationale.

    Mavic Shot Down

Wonder how long it will be until DJI or some vendor starts offering a DJI Mavic Armor kit for defense against ground fire?

Got hit by my Mavic blades

Hope that everyone who has a dog is careful about that. A dog as big as a Husky may be able to easily shrug off the impact from the blades, but a smaller dog could get really seriously injured. Be safe.

DJI Mavic Pro Platinum (Just Released)

4 dB really isn't that significant of a perceptible sound difference. A 4dB decrease in sound intensity means about 60% less acoustical energy BUT that doesn't mean that the sound will appear to be about "half as loud" as before to the human ear. The sensation of sound intensity to the human ear...

    ND filters are amazing!!!

Don't take it personally, dwallersv. I sometimes adopt my "cranky curmudgeon" persona for impact when I want to make a final strong point before abandoning a topic. Just wanted to get out my two cents. Sorry, no offense intended.

    ND filters are amazing!!!

OK, don't want to sound cranky, but I have to call baloney on this. ND filters do not increase the dynamic range. They shift the range but don't increase it. Also, your sentence "Therefore, the Mavic, as shipped, is incapable of handling the range of lighting conditions we experience without...

    Fly inside a cave?

Don't really see the point. For one, like you say, you can't fly very far into a cave before losing light. I took a look at the cave videos shot by drones in this thread and, frankly, wasn't that impressed by the cave footage. When you have a drone high in the sky and taking in a wide expanse of...

Pretty Amazing: An "omnicopter" that can catch balls

Found this news story about an omnicopter made by ETH Zurich (a University in Switzerland) that can play fetch with a ball. Pretty impressive. ETH Zurich's Omnicopter Plays Fetch

Karma ( Crashes ) at baseball game...

Not sure what you're trying to argue for here. Are you trying to argue that drones should be permitted at baseball games like this one?

    Order of turning on devices

So far, three different people have chimed in with their order preference and it's interesting to note that while all three agree that the TX should be turned on before the Mavic, all three of them have different answers about when the App should be turned on. One says the App should be turned...

    Order of turning on devices

The matter of TX versus Mavic has been debated before here, and it has been pretty much established that the TX should be turned on before the Mavic due to safety and control reasons. Doing that greatly reduces the chances of the Mavic responding to stray signals when it first wakes up and helps...

Just trying to be nice... Jeeze!

Yeah, the response from the park manager was a bit rude and harsh, but let me ask you this: Did you know the park's policy on drones before you sent your email? Seems that that is a very important piece of information to get if you wanted to anticipate what the park's response to your email...
