    How far should I fly?

I fly as far as the DJI go 4 let's me. It will let me know of any problems encountered. Let's be real if there was a catastrophic failure 1000 ft VLOS or 30000 ft it is the same, it's going down and nothing is stopping it. The only concern I have is other manned aircraft, but if I stay at 300ft...

Brightest and most reliable tablet that fits?

I recently got the Note 8 for when I did not want to use my iPad with hood, but what I found is that bright sun usually means heat and the Note 8 throttles back the brightness and puts me back to square one needing the hood and ipad.

Mavic went ROGUE, and is gone

Having problems for several flights before the loss should have been a sign to not fly until a thorough check was completed. Some lessons are free, some cost.

New Mavic 2 pix that look convincing

I do not believe these are models ready for production, but not fake pictures, just ideas and prototypes. I would have liked to buy that black pro instead of my Platinum.

So your drone doesn't fly well and you don't need another drone? Confusing, but I guess if you are content with not flying that's your business.

Smart RTH overprotective nanny....or is it.

I only do a compass or IMU cal when the DJI app says to. Many people do them every flight, I will if I have changed location drastically like a different state or suspect a major change in interference, otherwise the app knows if its needed.

Right on top in the front with velcro. Never had any problems with the compass because the transmitter only transmits when it receives the signal from the handheld receiver and then the drone is not flying.

A little off topic, but a big flaw with RTH is with OA on and returning into the sun the sensors may treat the sun as an obstacle and if the radio has not reconnected the drone may stop and hover until the battery hits 10% and land in an unknown location.

I agree with your statement. I was flying at Red Rock Canyon outside of Vegas and lost signal behind a cliff face, when the RTH took over to bring the craft back it ascended about 20 feet to clear the top of a peak. I did not know it until viewing the footage later on at home. That was a lesson...

Maybe for time that's correct, but my best results for distance are as I stated. Forward obstacle avoidance off with full stick forward.

The lowest you can safely fly will have the least wind speed generally. You may have to increase height as you go to maintain signal.

Does anyone have information, whether technical or by experience, on how the smart return to home calculates when to initiate the warning?

Smart RTH overprotective nanny....or is it.

The best setting for distance I have found is obstacle avoidance off in position mode. It will be at about 30mph and use the battery most efficiently. Sport mode is fast but the RPM is out of the sweet spot for distance. Entering sport mode may be necessary on the return trip if fighting heavy...

I watched the video all the way through and noticed the airspeed actually reduced related to the wind warnings which i been accustomed to closing because they are so often. Really had little choice after making the bad choice of continuing past battery warning.
