Yes it's expensive and I would not be able to justify the expense based on the outcome. Luckily there is a trial that let you play around.

Quality high depends on the camera and number of pictures.

Work related I'm very interested in the height maps Pix4d can generate.

Yeah, right now I don't have the business flow for a subscription service. Both Maps Made Easy and DroneDeploy have the same feature, but offer free, limited subscriptions with no expirations. Maps Made Easy will also do small-scale NDVI in the free version, if you're into that.
