When I turn on the Active Tracker and place a green box on the subject, let's say it is me, the Mavic air would turn so it would place the subject in the bottom right of the grid.

This even happens when I place the subject in the center of the camera.

Is this a calibration issue?

That’s but one of several undocumented features of Active Tracking. What does “Speed priority” mean, and what does the associated slider actually do? Y’got me!
“Spotlight” mode is a bloody mess! The stick function varies depending on the drone’s compass position relative to the subject. If you try it, be very cautious. That mode is worse than useless, it’s so broken it’s dangerous.

Though I was watching other Mavic Air on Youtube where it does center the subject.
