Currently flying an Air 3 (not an S) that I've had about a year.
Have been flying recreationally for 10+ years.
Used to use DroneLink a lot. I miss using it!

Considering the purchase of a refurbished (from DJI) Air 2S & a RC Pro controller.
May or may not keep the Air 3
"AM I Crazy"
What am I giving up?
Will i be disappointed?

Goal is use DroneLink & have a good reliable flying setup.
Thanks for any feedback.

No you aren't: I still fly (and love) my Air 2 periodically. As long as you can still get batteries (they are compatible with newer drones), you should remain operational.

Dave MH, the Air 2S and an RC Pro controller is a great combo to go with. If it’s what you are comfortable flying with using DroneLink…go for it. Especially if you’re getting what you want in the end product. Sometimes the learning curve on stepping up to a new device can be a bit redundant. With a new upgraded bell or whistle being introduced just about everyday where does one slow down and enjoy what we have already? Personally, I don’t buy green bananas anymore…I like them already ripened.

Happy and Enjoyable Flying

And I have that package available if you make that choice.

No you are not. I run a property surveying company in Liberia, West Africa. I also use DroneLink.
My work drones are
Air 2S (3)
Mini 2 (3)
Mini 3Pro (2)

I have an Air 3S, Air 3, Mini 4 Pro

I agree. I'm using the MA2 with Dronelink & it is delivering the goods with land survey type work. If it works, I don't need a fix.

Perhaps it's more a case of 'what am I gaining' when choosing one of the older drones over all the newer arrivals.

First off you have 3rd party software support.

Secondly you have a drone that has all its features and firmware thoroughly polished instead of waiting for bugs and glitches to be ironed out over (being realistic) a 12 month period of one firmware update after another.

Thirdly: you will have a genuine 20mp 1" sensor with nice big photosites (pixels).

Will i be disappointed?
Not in the least. The Air2s is one of the best drones, bang for the buck, that DJI ever released. Subsequent drones in the Air 3 and Mavic 3 series have upgrades and features but they are marginal. The Air2s still has outstanding image quality, decent battery life and flies like a dream.

I fly both the Mavic 3 Cine and the Air2s. I keep the later around for exactly your use case: when I did 3rd party apps to work particularly with mapping. But, if I have the Air2s out and handy because of a stockpile or mapping job, and I get to my next job that might be commercial real estate: I will happily fly the Air2s and not flip back as the ultimate image quality is relatively the same.

I've seen some great deals on Air2s drones and even recently bought yet another one as a backup to the one I am flying.

I had my Air2S and Air 3, and expected to use both, but honestly after flying the Air 3 I found it better to fly and couldn't go back to the 2s. Going form nearly 25 minutes to 45 minutes of flight time was a great, lets not forget about those side sensors which may save your drone on your next orbit. Then theirs that 70mm camera for when you can't get close, but want a closer shot. And lets not forget, probably the most impressive, though many people dont ever use it, proper waypoints and waypoint missions on the Air 3.

I still exclusively use my 2-Air 2S drones with the RC Pro. As long as I don't look at what the latest gadgets out there are, I am perfectly happy with the results from my 2S. It's been a workhorse for me. Not even one complaint from my clients.

Thanks for your comments

What about the Air 2S batteries.
Do you have a reliable source?

I go through a lot of batteries and am constantly replacing them.
I have purchased from the Amazon Renewed Store six times.

All the batteries came with less than 5 charge cycles each.
And in three cases, there was only 1 or 2 charge cycles.

So these batteries are practically new, warrantied and official DJI batteries for about $50/each.

I'm kicking the tires on a Air 2S Fly More Combo refurbished from DJI site. Basically, want to get it for the 1-inch native 20 mp image sensor. Sort of a backup to my 3S for photography. All the output I see from this drone is nothing short of spectacular.

My Mavic 3 is now my Part 107 drone. Started my 107 work on a Mini 4 Pro and after getting comments from clients on some small jobs at the size of the Mini, I felt embarrassed like size matters and need something bigger to feel more professional.

Someone comes out with smart mouthed crap like that again: grin and tell 'em you can have an Inspire 3 on-site within an hour but it'll cost them 5 times per hour what they're paying for the mini... cinematic drone: cinematic rates.

I pulled the trigger on the Air 2S refurbed fly more combo. People seem to swear by the drone even with newer models out, so I want to see what the fuss is about 😂. This is drone #7 for me. Yeah, I need to be admitted to Drones Anonymous...
