I also posted this on the DJI forum, but since this is an issue that affects every Air 3S drone it might be good to post it here as well.
Hopefully DJI will come with a firmware update to fix it.

I've been googling and it seems like nobody has seen the problems with the DNG files from the Air 3S.
I'm a bit surprised by it, because every DNG file has an artifact border around it. It's most obvious when shot in native 12MP mode.
It's not just my drone but I also see it in other people's sample photos (for example: DJI Air 3S Sample Photos Now Available For Download Now).

Large crops from some of my own images that show the issue:

wide lens (look at the top part):

tele lens (look at the bottom part):

Every single shot has these artifacts around the whole photo.
Often most visible on the bottom edge.

BTW: I opened them in multiple software to rule out it's an Adobe problem.

I see it on mine. It's less noticeable on the full-resolution shots, but it's definitely there. I imagine it'd be simple to fix in a firmware update. But maybe they'll have to adjust the number of megapixels that they quote for the camera resolution.Screenshot 2024-11-18 at 7.19.31 AM.jpg

I think it's a bug in the imaging processing software since it's in the files of both sensors and every Air 3S drone has this issue.
Should be fixable with a firmware update, hopefully DJI won't ignore this problem.

When I upscale my images for larger prints the artifacts become more noticeable.

Just checked and I see it on mine with both lenses in Lightroom and it is also there in Iridient Developer with lens correction turned off. Looking at 200% or more to notice it. In Lightroom scale to 101% and it is gone.

It would be interesting if owners of the Air 3 checked their DNG's for similar aberrations and contributed comparison shots. I was getting close to buying an Air 3S to retire my two Mavic 2's... I think I'll hold off for now. Better the old Devil you know.

I'll definitely be watching this thread with interest.

Yes at 100% they are hard to see, but since I often upscale my photos for larger prints they become much more noticeable. The artifacts really shouldn't be there. None of my other drones or cameras have this issue.

Not an aberration or distortion- this is totally normal on RAW files from most cameras. You are seeing the readout from the very edges of the sensor that are usually cropped out when camera creates a JPG.
Check your files- the RAW will always be a few pixels larger than the JPG of the same image.
Problem Solved!

That's a bug, not RAW edge pixel issues. Far too wide, looks to be dozens wide.

It looks like a row (top, bottom) or column (left/right) of pixels is being repeated.
