My auto iris doesn’t seem to be working in-flight when I ped up to get over the trees camera over exposes when it gets past them it doesn’t shut down Irish to proper level constantly fiddling with the dial to reduce or increase iris

The only Mavic camera that has an iris diaphragm is the Mavic 2 pro.
All the others have a fixed aperture.
 
If your auto exposure is on, it will adjust as more of a lighter area (the sky for example) fills the frame and underexpose the ground. Or the opposite, more of the ground and the sky gets blown out. Underexposure is easier to fix in post production. If you set your exposure in manual, it will stay consistent.
