Toronto is often described as a city of villages (or neighbourhoods), which always struck me as more of a realtor's marketing gimmick than anything else. I've lived here long enough to see neighbourhoods totally change character as landlords gentrified and pushed out the original quirky businesses that gave them their charm, replaced by chain stores and condos whose new owners lament and wonder where the unique character went…
Bloor West Village hasn't gentrified yet, and might not — the streets that flank it are full of expensive houses well-maintained by wealthy owners, who I suspect will use all their connections to prevent condo towers going up.
I was doing a flight for a friend — checking the roof of one of the businesses here — and decided to shoot a panorama as I have no idea when I'll return to this area.
