I have a new Mavic 2 Pro. I have done 4-5 test flights and all was good. I took it out this morning for more practice and I have no camera feed. Black screen.

Any ideas what could cause this? I have per cycled the controller and drone. Gone through all the settings (I think) all to no avail.

Any suggestions are very welcome.

Try another cable

Hi Ken,

Sorry to hear about this. Can you try taking some photos or video and then looking at the SD card on your computer to see if it is actually recording anything. Just trying to isolate the issue to the aircraft or SD card or remote controller.

Can you control the gimbal still?

Are you getting the normal telemetry data from the aircraft showing height etc?

And I have to ask, has the aircraft had any bumps or hard landings?

I am using the DJI smart controller, so no cables. I power cycled it several more times and it is working again. My concern is being on a job and this happen with no clear cause or resolution.

Maybe try re-linking the AC and RC just to be sure.
Did you also upgrade the AC firmware to the latest version v01.00.0670 ?

It is very frustrating. It started working (not sure what I did) and I thought all was good. Went out an hour later and same thing. Power cycled both units and it worked again. Not very comforting for a tool that is supposed to be reliable. This could be very embarrassing on a job.

I was on the line with DJI. They said send it in and we will get it back to you in 4-6 weeks. Ridiculous amount of time if you make your lively hood from this device. No loaner program either. This really concerns me also. Other camera systems like Canon and Nikon for example have a pro service that has expedited service times and loaners available.

Don’t send it in. This is a known issue with SC. DJI will do nothing.
You need to make sure you turn on SC first the. Drone. Most times this will prevent the no feed issue.
The problem has been around from day 1. If you follow this power sequence and still get the black screen for camera feed then you do have to power cycle the SC.
I have seen the issue several times on start up but never during a flight. It only seems to occur during the start up communication between drone and SC.

Just so I am clear. I am a little slow sometimes:)

Turn on the drone first then the controller? I will try this. Thinking about it I may have turned on the controller first in the cases it did not work. What does SC stand for? Like I said - slow sometimes.....

I am surprised DJI support was unaware of this when I spoke with them. The woman I was speaking with did not seem all that knowledgable. She had to go ask somebody every time I asked her a question.

Paul is correct that this is a very well known problem with the SC. DJI to date has ignored our complaints. There have been numerous different methods offered by users to correct the problem which range from starting the controller first, clearing cache, cleaning up or reformatting the SD card, and some have reported it works for them by starting the drone first. Ultimately I think it's hit and miss, but what works for me is either a full shutdown and restart or clearing out open apps running in the background. It you want to try closing all open apps, just hit the FN button and move the 5D button to the left and all open apps will appear. Just swipe them off the screen and they will be closed. Reopen DJI Go 4 and typically the camera screen will work correctly.

Ken - if you go to the dedicated Smart Controller section of this forum, use the search button at the upper right of the screen (magnifying glass) and type in 'black screen', you'll see all the problems we've been having. It's more of an annoyance as it doesn't seem to ever happen once airborne.

Regards,

John

I may have said it backwards.

Turn on SC, get the screen, then turn on drone. sorry if I posted it backwards.

DJI's support is less than stellar IMO for the SC. It still has a time problem, can't keep accurate time always needs to be reset, and this issue has also been an nagging issue. I have opened cases with them and posted in on their own forum, but it's always the same stock reply, "thanks, I will forward that to the developers". You will get much more accurate support from the members on this site, if you post flight records. There are several members here that really go the extra mile to help out, Sar104 for example. Best support DJI can give is if you are under warranty, to help get you a warranty replacement (they never actually fix them, just send along a refurb). But for issues where you need flight records read, this is the best place.

The issue is much less common if you turn on SC, let it load up then turn on drone.

However if you turn on SC, then drone and and make connection and get video feed, if you go into the settings to change the time, turn on wifi, etc. when you come back out to the DJIgo 4 screen, you might get the black screen giving no feed. So if you feel you need to go to settings, do this before you turn on the drone. My SC is always 1 to 2 hours fast so I always have to reset the clock.

Like slapping your head when you missed something obvious in this case I was the one talking about the Smart Controller yet did not put it together. I have no idea what it really stands for.

Definitely a learning curve with this hobby, but you're doing just fine. Hope things go well with the SC going forward and that you have many great flights ahead.

Thank you all for the advice. Thank you Paul2660. It is good to know it is only a bug. A bug is not great, but I can deal with it. I was afraid it was more serious. I also used the app closing instructions and indeed had several apps open.
