A view easterly from above the south rim of Unaweep Canyon toward the Grand Mesa (on the horizon at left). Beyond, on the horizon at right, distant peaks of the West Elk range are partially obscured by haze and clouds. Capped by a thick lava flow, Grand Mesa is home to more than 200 lakes and a forest of Englemann Spruce and Subalpine Fir. It tops out at more than 11,000 feet above sea level.
