hi there fellow pilots!

I will be visiting Chicago soon and if anyone Chicagoans have any insights/suggestions for me.

I am looking to fly early morning to minimize people/traffic and I’d like to snap the following…

Chicago harbor lighthouse from Chicago lock pier?

Adler aquarium from lake front trail?

thanks in advance for your tips!

When I first thought about taking drone pictures and videos at the popular Chicago sites, I used Youtube to look up places that were already done to get a good idea of the best angles, where to start from, and how to safely shoot without getting involved with the crowds. There are a ton of videos posted, very helpful.

I wish I could help you more regarding drone permissions, but Chicago ( my home town from 1938 until 1970) is one of the most beautiful cities you will ever find. The prime real estate is Grant Park with Buckingham Fountain, facing downwtown and Michigan Avenue. Also, any lake front access will give you great images. The Oak Street Beach, the end of Navy Pier are great vantages points for the skyline images.

I Have flown mulitple drones, also new buffalo,st. Jo, dunes, and lots of locations all over lake michigan,

Just respect people privacy, most individuals would stop and watch, even Chicago police. I meet several other drones operators, flying their drone, when ever i was flying.

I shot this one a number of years ago. Might give you a couple of ideas. Also, if you're Part 107, consider flying some of the skyscrapers downtown. I was surprised how much of the city is wide open airspace wise.

There was me thinking I might be one of the oldest here and then you reveal-1938! Keep up the good work Dale. Beautiful City Chicago-we loved our visits there-in the grip of Winter and Summer.
