Connection to drone inconsistencies

Sometimes when I attempt connect smart controller to Mavic 2 Pro, it makes me select from a list of drone types, then after selecting mine, it prompts me to connect. Sometimes it connects w/o that hassle. Why does it do that? Is there an exact procedure for connecting the controller to the bird that I'm not following?

The latest version of go4 on my android does this. Was recently installed a few months ago. I think there are earlier versions still around. My go4 on my iPad from two years ago is fine though. I have an annoying problem on the new version that keeps refocusing every few seconds disturbing any video. I do a work around this which I found on YouTube.
