The Peace Mill (De Vredesmolen),
The Germans evacuate Klerken in November 1914. The mill stands at a height of 43 m and is set up by the Germans as a lookout. On September 28, 1918, the ultimate attack on Klerken and the mill took place. The Germans in the mill hold their own, but the next morning they all disappeared. The story goes that they used an underground passageway to escape. The attack at Klerken claimed the lives of 554 Belgian soldiers. Over the past decades, the mill has been in a deteriorating condition, but renovation works have made it accessible again. The mill offers a beautiful panorama of the former front area.
Thanks to Horizon 2025, panoramic information panels were installed, which indicate the different landscape features and offer additional information to the visitor. This update makes the vantage point even more attractive to visitors.
