DJI Go 4 Gesture Feature - FLAKY

Any thoughts on the stability/reliability of the gesture feature? I'm an Android user (Samsung Galaxy S7) and I have not been able to get the Mavic Pro to go into gesture mode functionally yet. I've tried on a couple of occasions now. Is there a magic sequence or magic settings or magic distance or something?

I have had many occasions now where I would have loved to use that feature so I'm looking for any suggestions.

I'm using a Note 3. I didn't get it to work for me. In all honesty I only messed with it for about five minutes. I'm wondering if I was too far away and is there a distance barrier? Do I have to be pretty close?

Works ok for me.
Make sure it's in gesture mode, confirm then follow prompts.
You have to face it and best make a Y shape with arms until you get its attention then make a square shape with thumb and finger both hands until you see the lights flashing showing it is about to take a shot. Best about two metres high and about four metres back at least.
