I recently bought a set of Neewer filters, and though I'm very satisfied with them, there is one thing that worries me.

They don't screw on but push on instead, and you need to push quite hard. And when you need to remove one, you really need to pull it very hard indeed. All this has me worrying about what this might be doing to the gimbal. I always have the gimbal clamp on when I fit or remove a filter, and in addition to this, I try to hold the camera as still as possible with my other hand, but I still get the feeling I'm putting a lot of stress on the gimbal.

Am I worrying unnecessarily?

None of the Mavic filters screw on, they are all slip on and some go on tighter then others. It is good that you use the gimbal clamp on while installing filters to help stabilize the camera. I don't know anything about Neewer filters, maybe some one here has them, mine are skyreat, they go on and off without a lot of pull, and thin enough that they don't hit anything during gimbal calibration. I also use a camera guard because I don't like the way the camera is just hanging out there waiting to get banged. The first one I got cause a dark line across top of image when flying forward, so bought a different kind. As far as putting to much stress on the gimbal, you just need to go with what you feel comfortable with.

I’ve been using push on filters for months. If done carefully as you describe, no damage is done. They do get a little less tight with use, at least my Tacos did.

The gimbal itself seems to be quite sturdy. When I crashed my pro hard, the complete assembly broke off the metal vibration plate. The whole thing ripped out and tumbled across the concrete driveway and didn't have a scratch on it. The aircraft fell about 15+ feet. It's either made from Titanium or aircraft aluminum. It still takes beautiful video. All I had to replace was the extremely fragile ribbon cable and the vibration plate.

I have Neewers, too, and I wouldn't call the force "hard". Some snugness is needed so they don't fall off in flight. Just a tiny bit of twisting motion (2-3mm) helps when you push them in.
