Float Planes

While flying my Mavic this weekend over my favorite lake. 2 float planes took off. I was near that area of the lake and had no idea there were on the lake. I quickly left the area while they took off and landed several times over the next 2 hours.

Does the lake show a floatplane base on an air navigation chart? If so you probably have to notify the operator of the base that you are within 5 miles. The "anchor" is a floatplane base. See Skyvector for your area.

Not listed / marked as a float plan base. They flew in for the day and gave rides to friends is my guess.

Could be some kind of training thing too. Practicing taking off/landing in various locations. -CF
