I occasionally fly straight my
MA2 with the gimbal turned a bit to the side and slightly down while recording video, Usually when I want to capture a long pan of a cliff face or other linear feature. I find it easier than flying at an angle with the gimbal "straight" when I'm close to the feature because I don't have to worry about hitting something if I fly a bit poorly, Here's what I do:
1. Disable sideways flight (this helps me keep on course with the gimbal to the side).
2. Fly to the position of where I want to start the pan. Adjust my distance from the feature then straighten the drone on the course that will keep it close to the feature, but pass it "safely". Pick a landmark out there that will let me check the course.
3. Keep the drone hovering straight and move the gimbal sideways and down to get the view I want, pick out the landmark in the corner of the view. Start recording and use the pitch stick to move the drone along the course - watching that landmark in the corner to make sure all is well. Because sideways flight is disabled I don't have to worry about the exact position of the pitch stick.
I suspect someone more skilled a piloting their drone than me would be able to accomplish the same effect flying sideways, but when I try that I have trouble keeping close, but not too close, to the feature I'm recording.
